Blog About What You Love and You Will Succeed

By Ganesh On October 22, 2008 8 Comments

Let me repeat that statement - Blog about what you love and you will succeed. Its a fact. Do what you are passionate about. It can be anything. If you do something which you obviously enjoy doing then you will find it easy to succeed. The same goes for blogging too.

If you start a blog solely to make money from it, then I’m afraid to say, you cannot. Do what you like, and only then focus on making money. For example, one of my passions is badminton. I love the sport and enjoy writing about it. So I started a blog about it. When I started, my intention wasn’t to make any money, it was just a way to express love for a sport which I like very much. Everyone has their own interests. You might be passionate about soccer or science or movies or whatever. The thing is, you should focus where you interests lie. I recently read a nice ebook by Yaro Starak of Entrepreneurs Journey. You can get the ebook my subscribing to his blog. Let me quote a few lines:

Enthusiasm is the first and most critical ingredient to build a successful business.

If you care about your business, what your business does and how it does it, then you will maintain motivation day after day through the highs and lows. And I guarantee you there will be plenty of both.

If you don’t have enthusiasm, you won’t keep working long enough, nor will you enjoy what you do. If you don’t enjoy your business, it will fail, perhaps slowly, but eventually it will fail. If you do not have enthusiasm for your project, if you are not completely “sold” on what you do, you are not meant to be running that business.

Let’s say you are passionate about movies. You know everything about movies. You have your opinions about the latest flicks. You can start a blog related to that and giving out the latest news in the movie industry. And along with that, you can make some money off your blog too.

What I’m saying is that if you blog about your interests or passions you will enjoy and at the same time you will be able to make money from it. So, do blog about what you are passionate about. All the best. :)

You can make money from Paid Reviews

By Ganesh On October 7, 2008 14 Comments

Review Brokers

You have heard of paid reviews. Paid reviews are a great way to make some money off your blog. A few bloggers scorn at the idea of paid reviews saying that it will kill your pagerank. I don’t mind Pagerank much. I think money is quite more important. After all, doing paid reviews can help you when you are in need. I have done many paid reviews in the past and made some money from it.

Here is a summary of some paid review services I use.

Smorty - Smorty is a service I have been using since a long time. Most of the time, they have a lot of offers. Usually, you start with $6 per assignment and it can go on increasing as you complete more assignments. Once you accept a task, you are given 24 hours to complete it. They send payments weekly.

Blogsvertise - Blogsvertise gives out a lot of tasks once you get accepted into their network. The only bad thing about them is that they pay 30 days after your post gets accepted.

Blog to Profit - I’m new to this service. They give only three tasks when you start and keep sending more offers only when you complete the first three. They usually pay within 2 weeks. One thing I like about Blog to Profit is their splendid support.

Making money by doing paid reviews is easy. But the difficult part is getting accepted into some of the paid review services. Here are some tips:

  • Improve your stats. You get accepted into paid review services only if your blog has good stats. So start building up your Pagerank and Alexa.
  • Improve your blog. Many paid review services require you to regularly update your blog with normal posts (not paid posts).

Although the above tips are for making money from paid reviews, I want to hear your opinion on whether doing paid reviews is good or bad.

Is doing paid reviews good or bad?

Increase Your Subscriber Count like Crazy - Hold a Contest

By Ganesh On September 9, 2008 16 Comments

I recently won the comment contest at Shoemoney. I received the shirt my mail today and I am wearing it right now. :D

What does (probably) every blogger do to increase his subscriber count? Hold a contest of course. You cannot deny it, contests are the best way to increase your subscribers, besides writing great content. So in this post, we’re going to analyze what sort of contests can increase your feedcount and a look at how other bloggers have used contests to increase their subscriber count.

Blog Contests

We all like blog contests. After all, we get a chance to win something. Look at this contest. That was the contest I held at my blog over a month ago. By looking at the page, one can say that the prizes are cool. Anybody would like to have those prizes. However, getting those prizes means some work. One had to get more tickets to make sure that he won every prize. However people are lazy. They don’t like to do hard work as writing a blog post about a contest.

In case I hold a contest giving away, lets say, $50, a random subscriber who commented on the blog. Then surely, many would participate in it. For them, it would be an easy way to get $50 just my subscribing and commenting instead of going through the hassles of a traditional contest.

For example, I hold a contest where I’m going to give away $50 to a random subscriber. Maybe a hundred visitors signed up as subscribers to get a chance to win those $50. So, I get 100+ subscribers for my blog by just giving away $50. Getting hundred subscribers will surely add to the value of my blog. That’s a win-win situation for both me and the subscriber.

Others contests

Let’s see a few bloggers who increased their subscriber count by holding a contest.

Not Another Make Money Online Blog - This blogger has held a comment contest on his blog giving away $50 to one random commentator. In the end, he got a boost of 100 subscribers.

Da Bloggger - Da Blogger held a comment contest giving away $50 to a random commentator. As a result, he got nearly 150 subscribers.

Opinion

I guess holding comment contests is an easy way to boost your subscriber count. You can easily gain 100-150 subscribers by this method. $50 is enough for a contest. But you cannot ignore the gains.
Jason from TUK says:

A blog with 100 subscribers is worth at least $200, and if you sell it right, a lot more than that.

Check out his post about blog contests.

So, I conclude this post by saying that contests are indeed a great way to increase your subscribers.

How to Increase your Backlinks

By Ganesh On August 12, 2008 13 Comments

In case you don’t know, there is a contest running on this blog. Make sure you join it. :)

The last time I looked at the number of backlinks to my blog, it was 119. So I was working on ways to increase the number of backlinks to my blog and wrote a post which can help you do the same.

Comments. Comments. And Comments.

I used the word thrice to emphasize its importance. This is the best way to increase backlinks. And this is what drives the much of the traffic to my blog. For traffic from comments, I’d like to recommend that you stick to a few particular blogs. Especially those ones which have the Top Commentators list and CommentLuv enabled. If you are a regular commentator at a blog, chances are that you are in the top commentators list, which gives your blog a dofollow link. And CommentLuv is a great way of deep linking to your blog posts. Deep linking means linking to a post in your blog.

Please understand that there is a thin line between commenting and spamming. Don’t make yourself look as if you’re commenting just for the sake of gaining links. Or else, you’ll be labeled as a spammer. So be careful while commenting on blogs.

Forums

Forums like Digital Point allow signatures at the end of a post. That’s your way to create a great linkback to your blog.

Link from your other Blogs

If you have another blog which is well-ranked, you should link to your new blog from there. That way, your blog gets a lot of SEO-juice.

Start a Contest

If you’re aiming for a lot of backlinks then starting a contest is the way to go. Make sure that all the participants are required to link back to your blog and the contest post. A killer way for gaining links and deep links too. If you don’t want to organise a contest of your own, you can sponsor a contest at some other blog. Some good bloggers (like me ;) ) will reward you by writing a small review about your blog if you sponsor a prize for their contest.

Set yourself a goal

When you’re planning to increase the number of links to your blog, make sure that you are creating a goal. Like “I wanna gain 200 backlinks to this blog by the end of August”. Make your goal achievable and also set a time limit.

How did you like this post? Tell me in the comments below. :D

7 Smart Blogging Tips

By Ganesh On August 2, 2008 7 Comments

Sorry for the late post. I was not at home the last few days. Now that I’m back, here is a post for you guys.

When it comes to blogging, there are a lot of tips that can be given. So many blogging tips will surely confuse a person. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of the most smart blogging tips that you should follow. Here are seven smart blogging tips to help you become a smart blogger:

  • Write good posts - This is the basic and the most important thing in blogging. Good posts make a blog, bad ones break them. Focus on producing the best content for your blog, you can take care of other things afterwards.
  • Know your topic - You need to know your topic or niche. If you don’t know about what you’re writing about, research beforehand. Only once you know about the topic, you should write about it.
  • Encourage Comments - The more comments a blog post has, the more popular it becomes. Encourage comments by asking readers their opinion or by simply asking them to comment. Using the Top Commentators Plugin is a great way to encourage readers to comment.
  • Don’t be perfect - Don’t be perfect. If you write everything that there is to say in a topic in the post, then what will the commentators do? Be open ended so that your readers can pick up the topic from where you left it.
  • Comment - After you write a blog post, make sure you go to other blogs and comment there. Don’t just post one-line comments like “Nice Post”. Your comments reflect your blog. Make thought-provoking comments.
  • Promote your blog post - Once your post is out, make sure it gets the popularity it deserves. Use social bookmarking, comments and forums to promote your blog post.
  • Read and Comment on Blog Smartly - I’m sure that if you don’t do this, it’s gonna be the biggest mistake you ever made. ;)

Well, how do you like these. Let me know in the comments below.

By the way, don’t forget to subscribe to my feed via RSS or via email because there’s going to be a big contest on this blog in a few days. ;)

Smart Tips on Getting Traffic to Your Brand New Blog

By Ganesh On July 29, 2008 5 Comments

Blog Smartly has been officially online for more than 24 hours. In the 24 hours, this blog has received 1 comment (whoa, one comment!) and a few dozen hits. In my opinion, I had a very successful blog launch.

In this post, I’ll share what I’ve done to get more traffic to my new blog.

Get more Traffic to your Blog

1. Comments

Ah! What is a better way for driving traffic than comments? In the first few days of starting my blog, I’ll go wild and comment on every post that other blogs make and guess what I get? A truckload of traffic and comments in return. If you comment frequently, you might find yourself in the top commentators list of other blogs. So, start by commenting on this blog. ;)

2. Entrecard
Entrecard logo

I always recommend and use Entrecard for driving traffic to a new blog. I just set up my Entrecard account a few hours ago, and I already have three requests for advertising on my blog. If you have a new blog, then follow my advice. Start visiting other blogs in your niche that have Entrecard and drop your card there. Do this for about 50 blogs a day. You’ll get 50 more visitors for your blog. Along with dropping I recommend that you drop a comment on their latest post. Others will return the favor.

3. Social Bookmarking

Using the power of social bookmarking, you can get as much traffic as you desire. Social bookmarking sites like Digg, StumbleUpon and Sphinn make you site noticed to others. Why not do me a favor and submit this post to a social bookmarking site?

4. Giving link love to other blogs

Linking or mentioning other blogs will make them visit your blog and drop a comment. They might even mention you in their blog. For example, I’m linking to Standout Blogger. He might drop in and say hi (Please Tom, I’m believing in you). If possible, try to write a link love post once a week. You’ll get quite a lot of comments on that one. :)
