Look at that! They're younger and better than me!

By Ganesh On December 28, 2008 3 Comments

A long while back when I first started blogging, I did not know anybody my age who was into blogging and making money online. Of course, there were a few young folks (Carl Ocab) that inspired me to start blogging. I used to consider myself very special and talented because nobody else in my place even knew what blogging was. I even used to flaunt at school about my sites and the people with whom I had chatted with. :D

Nowadays, more and more young people are starting to blog. And they are doing a great job too! Many of them are the same age as me but there are a few bloggers who are quite young too.

Recently, Carl launched a site called Youngest Blogger which lists and ranks young bloggers based on their age and blog stats. Some of them are as young as 11 years old. My name was not listed, so I immediately filled out a form to add my blog. I hope I rank in the top 5. ;)

Check out Youngest Blogger and see how you or your favorite young blogger ranks.

So, what do you think about today’s young bloggers who are taking over the blogosphere? Tell me what you think by commenting on this post.

Sunday Link Love and Updates

By Ganesh On October 26, 2008 8 Comments

And the first two people to comment here will get a free 125×125 for one week. Remember to mention the link to your banner and your site.

Hey guys! A very happy Sunday to you all. Let’s kick off this Sunday by rewarding the best posts this week with some link love. So here they are:

Desmond again shed some light on the lesser known ways of making money online. Jim wrote about doing guest posts to market your site. He even suggests that we outsource the work of writing the posts . Jeremy of Shoemoney.com wrote about his experiences with twitter after 4 months of using it. One look at his stats shows that he gets most of his visitors from twitter. That is enough to get people to start using twitter. And last but not the least, Balkhi wrote a post on how to make sales from your blog.

For all those who are about to buy domains, here’s a little coupon that you will surely find useful. Just use the coupon code 199TEST on Godaddy and get a .com domain for $2.19. That’s a big saving for those who buy a lot of domains. Thanks to Jason from The University Kid for pointing it out. You can also thank me for pointing it out to you. ;)

Also, I’m selling my proxy Unisurfer.info which is one month old. Till now it has earned over $8 within this one month. If you wish to buy it, just contact me. The minimum bid is $20. And the BIN price is $40.

In the real world

It was a pretty busy week for me. My exams are coming up soon (on October 29). We have holidays until 28 because we have a big festival coming up, Diwali. On this day, people play with crackers and fireworks. This is gonna be a very wonderful day because all my friends are coming to my home and we’ll have fun bursting crackers. Happy Diwali to you all!

Blog About What You Love and You Will Succeed

By Ganesh On October 22, 2008 8 Comments

Let me repeat that statement - Blog about what you love and you will succeed. Its a fact. Do what you are passionate about. It can be anything. If you do something which you obviously enjoy doing then you will find it easy to succeed. The same goes for blogging too.

If you start a blog solely to make money from it, then I’m afraid to say, you cannot. Do what you like, and only then focus on making money. For example, one of my passions is badminton. I love the sport and enjoy writing about it. So I started a blog about it. When I started, my intention wasn’t to make any money, it was just a way to express love for a sport which I like very much. Everyone has their own interests. You might be passionate about soccer or science or movies or whatever. The thing is, you should focus where you interests lie. I recently read a nice ebook by Yaro Starak of Entrepreneurs Journey. You can get the ebook my subscribing to his blog. Let me quote a few lines:

Enthusiasm is the first and most critical ingredient to build a successful business.

If you care about your business, what your business does and how it does it, then you will maintain motivation day after day through the highs and lows. And I guarantee you there will be plenty of both.

If you don’t have enthusiasm, you won’t keep working long enough, nor will you enjoy what you do. If you don’t enjoy your business, it will fail, perhaps slowly, but eventually it will fail. If you do not have enthusiasm for your project, if you are not completely “sold” on what you do, you are not meant to be running that business.

Let’s say you are passionate about movies. You know everything about movies. You have your opinions about the latest flicks. You can start a blog related to that and giving out the latest news in the movie industry. And along with that, you can make some money off your blog too.

What I’m saying is that if you blog about your interests or passions you will enjoy and at the same time you will be able to make money from it. So, do blog about what you are passionate about. All the best. :)

Sunday Link Love and Updates

By Ganesh On October 19, 2008 13 Comments

The first two people to comment here will win a 125×125 for one week on my blog. Just give me the link to your banner in the comment and I will put it up right away.

Let’s take a look at what happened this week:

  • Lack of Posting - I wasn’t doing any posts this week because I was extremely busy with school and other stuff. Sorry for that. I will get back to writing good content from now.
  • New Header design - Did you see the new header? Of course you did. My blog got a new header and a theme tweak done by Sparx Media. I got in touch with him on Digital Point forums. He was doing free designing to build up his portfolio. I love his work and I’ll surely hire him for my future designing needs. Hey I want to hear your opinion on how the new design looks. :)
  • New Blog - I started a new blog yesterday - Badminton Blog. I’m a great badminton fan and I wanted to start a blog related to the sport so that I can meet other people interested in badminton. Its brand new, so there is not much content yet. What do you think?

Here are the link updates for this week:

Well that’s all the for the updates for this week. Tell me how you liked the new design in the comments below

What’s happening around

By Ganesh On October 14, 2008 9 Comments

Hey there guys. Sorry for the long lack of posts. I had school and tests and all that so I wasn’t able to get enough time for my blog.

For the past few weeks, I was trying to make some good money from the offers at Digital Point forums. I made some money so that’s very encouraging. I’m thinking of some ways to improve this blog. Here are some ideas:

  • Get a new header for this blog to make it look professional. Work is already going on for a new header design. Hopefully, it will be up in a few days. :)
  • Make this blog do-follow. You know, that will increase the number of comments substantially. I saw this effect at Blog for Beginners. Since Yan changed the his blog to dofollow, he has been getting about 60-90 comments for his top posts. That’s cool. So I’m going to give you guys some juicy dofollow links. :D
  • Write 100% good content.

Aside from blogging, there are some exciting things happening offline (you know, the word “offline” sounds a bit odd). I’m participating in a big quiz called The Hindu Young World Quiz 2008. The quiz is on tomorrow (its 14th October 8 pm here, the quiz is on 15th). I hope to get past alteast the preliminary round (first round). The prizes are cool (cash and gift hampers from the sponsors) aside from the feeling of pride and joy you get when you win. I went to the same quiz last year but did not win the first place (just a few small prizes). Wish me luck this time. :D

You can make money from Paid Reviews

By Ganesh On October 7, 2008 14 Comments

Review Brokers

You have heard of paid reviews. Paid reviews are a great way to make some money off your blog. A few bloggers scorn at the idea of paid reviews saying that it will kill your pagerank. I don’t mind Pagerank much. I think money is quite more important. After all, doing paid reviews can help you when you are in need. I have done many paid reviews in the past and made some money from it.

Here is a summary of some paid review services I use.

Smorty - Smorty is a service I have been using since a long time. Most of the time, they have a lot of offers. Usually, you start with $6 per assignment and it can go on increasing as you complete more assignments. Once you accept a task, you are given 24 hours to complete it. They send payments weekly.

Blogsvertise - Blogsvertise gives out a lot of tasks once you get accepted into their network. The only bad thing about them is that they pay 30 days after your post gets accepted.

Blog to Profit - I’m new to this service. They give only three tasks when you start and keep sending more offers only when you complete the first three. They usually pay within 2 weeks. One thing I like about Blog to Profit is their splendid support.

Making money by doing paid reviews is easy. But the difficult part is getting accepted into some of the paid review services. Here are some tips:

  • Improve your stats. You get accepted into paid review services only if your blog has good stats. So start building up your Pagerank and Alexa.
  • Improve your blog. Many paid review services require you to regularly update your blog with normal posts (not paid posts).

Although the above tips are for making money from paid reviews, I want to hear your opinion on whether doing paid reviews is good or bad.

Is doing paid reviews good or bad?

Google Pagerank Update

By Ganesh On September 27, 2008 24 Comments

Well it seems that Google has updated its Pagerank. Every few months, Google Updates its rankings of various website on the internet. This ranking by Google is very important for a website and influences its traffic and advertising rates. Bloggers too consider Pagerank as an important factor for their blogs.

Blog Smartly got a Pagerank 1. Although I’m not satisfied with it, I will make sure I get a good PR next time. :)

Blog Smartly Fair Value Analysis

Due to the many people complaining about the unjust pagerank ranking system, I have decided to do a fair value analysis of many blogs here in this post. Below is a list of 19 blogs that are listed with their pageranks and their fair value.

Blog Smartly \"Fair Value\" Pagerank Analysis

Blog Name Pagerank Fair value Valuation
Problogger.net 6 6 Appropriate
Shoemoney 6 6 Appropriate
John Chow 3 6 Undervalued
John Cow 3 5 Undervalued
Court's IM School 5 5 Appropriate
The Net Fool 3 4 Undervalued
The University Kid 4 4 Appropriate
Jason Boom 3 4 Undervalued

Tyler Cruz 2 2 Appropriate
Rishab Sood 3 3 Appropriate

Desmond Blog 2 2 Appropriate

Overall, Google has done a pretty good job of ranking websites this time. Although big sites like John Cow were given rankings that were totally unfair, most of the other blogs got fair rankings.

What you can learn

If you did not receive a pagerank that you were satisfied with (or you did not receive any pagerank at all), you can put some good effort into gaining more links to your blog. Try commenting more on other blogs, submitting your blog to directories, etc.

Bottom line - Google’s Pagerank may not be very accurate, it may not be fair even! But, like it or not, Google Pagerank serves as a powerful factor for your website. :)

My First Proxy - Unisurfer.info

By Ganesh On September 24, 2008 9 Comments

Sorry guys for the long lack of posts. I was busy with school and other things.

I felt like writing a make money online post today. :)

I’m pretty sure most of you have heard about proxies. Its a pretty cool way to make some quick money. So I started my first proxy - Unisurfer.info.

Here’s the total money I spent on the proxy:

Domain from NameCheap - $2.98
Hosting from MonsterProx - $0 (free for the first month)

If you’re wondering why I used NameCheap instead of GoDaddy, the reason is because GoDaddy requires a verified Paypal account whereas Namcheap doesn’t. The prices at Namecheap are a bit high but they come with free whois privacy and many cool features. I recommend you use them if you are having an unverified Paypal account.

I’m planning to sell it for over $30 by the end of this month. I have to put up a logo soon. At present the traffic is really low. I’m planning to gain more traffic by posting like crazy on forums. ;)

John Cow has been COWnapped!

By Ganesh On September 14, 2008 8 Comments

This will be the most entertaining story that you have read today. :D

You would have read about this on my Saturday Link Love. John Cow has been COWnapped! Its been a sad day that the John Cow pastures. They have informed the officials. They really seem to miss the Cow and are afraid to eat any meat now :) . That’s not a problem for me since I’m a vegetarian and I don’t eat meat.

Watch this video to see how the Cow was COWnapped.

Meanwhile Garry Conn is denying that he hired someone to kidnap the cow. But he seems to be very happy with the news.

Who do you think COWnapped John Cow?

Saturday Link Roundup - 13 September

By Ganesh On September 13, 2008 3 Comments

Here’s the link roundup for this week:

First things first. News broke out from John Cow TV that the Cow has been kidnapped ..er, cownapped. No one clearly knows who kidnapped the Cow, but many suspect that the cow has been taken away by some evil internet marketer or Garry Conn. I think that Garry Conn was involved and sent the cow, perhaps to the meat market. But Garry Conn, although happy about the situation, denies this. This is certainly the most entertaining news I’ve heard on the internet for a long time.

Desmond on his blog as again given us some good advice on website flipping. He recommends that you have to build your team if you’re into website flipping to save costs and time. Lucas, of Net Strife, despite being busy is still delivering the top-notch, smashing posts that he promised. On his latest post, he talks of how to get clients as a freelancer.

Jason from The University Kid has written a wicked post on how contests can make you sick money. In his post, Jason explains how he uses contest arbitrage to increase a blog’s subscribers which in turn increases the website’s value while flipping.

P.S. If you’re looking for some entertainment, I recommend that you check you the John Cow TV. :)
